If the generated solar power is not only fed into the public power grid, it is called self-consumption or self-consumption.
With the EEG2009 the possibility of the direct consumption of self-generated electricity from a photovoltaic system was introduced for the first time. The solar power can be used partially or completely by yourself. The solar power that is not consumed by the company itself will continue to be fed into the public grid at the normal remuneration rate.
For the electricity you use yourself there is an additional payment for your own consumption, depending on when it is commissioned. Electricity you use yourself must be consumed in the immediate vicinity of the system yourself or by third parties (e.g. tenants).
The decisive factor for self-consumption is that the solar power must also be consumed parallel to generation. So you can't just feed into the public grid during the day and then draw your own electricity from it again in the evening. The storage solutions provide a remedy here.
An additional meter is required to determine the amount of energy used (difference between generation and feed-in). As a rule, the reference meter is replaced by a bidirectional meter.
Inverters are connected to one or more phases of the house network. However, this is usually unproblematic for determining self-consumption, since most meters balance the phases with one another.
